General
Things you'll want to know

In the Dressing Room: For students who have to be at the studio for long periods of time, (i.e. three or more hours) we ask that you keep all food and drinks out of the dressing room.  Please eat in the waiting area at the table, or outside on the front porch of the market if you would prefer in nice weather.

In the Studio: Students may bring water into the studio if they feel that they will need a drink during class.  Please do not bring juice or soda.  Water only!

Please put students' names on every piece of dancewear and on the inside of all dance shoes so that lost items can be quickly returned to the owner.

In case of inclement weather, please call the studio to confirm classes or listen to WNBT for cancellations.  You can find additional cancellation information for our classes at the following websites http://www.firstpositiondancestudio.com/cancellations.htm and http://www.cancellations.com

There is no smoking allowed in our studios.

Dance Etiquette and Respect:

We believe that all dancers should develop a sense of respect for themselves, the other dancers in their class, and the instructor.  In order to help foster that respect we ask that students refrain from speaking socially during classes and for students to treat others as they would like to be treated.  Students who continually act out in an inappropriate manner during class may be asked to leave the class or may possibly be moved to a more appropriate level.  In our tradition of teaching and learning if a student is given a correction-it is considered the highest form of a compliment.  Students should realize that their instructor has taken time to help correct them because the teacher cares about their overall technique and wants to help them improve.  Corrections are not an opportunity to argue with the instructor, but an opportunity to learn.

What we need
from the Student

  • All teachers expect students to have their hair pulled back from the face or in a ponytail for all classes and put in a bun if it is long for ballet.

  • All students are required to wear appropriate clothing to dance class including footwear.  No tee-shirts are permitted.

  • Long earrings, necklaces and bracelets should not be worn in class.

  • No gum or candy is allowed in class.

  • Most importantly, please arrive 5 minutes early for class to insure that you will have adequate time to change.   Arriving late is not only rude to the instructor, it also disrupts class and you will have missed part of warm-up, making an injury more likely.

  • Above all else, we need  your attention and desire to dance.

What we need
from the Parents

  • Parents are asked to have students to class on time and to pick them up on time, unless an emergency arises.  Children tend to get very upset when parents are late.  If you will be late please call and let us know.  Students arriving more than 10 minutes late will not be able to participate in class.

  • Parents are reminded to park on Main Street and walk down the drive to the studio entrance.  Please do not block the drive as it is shared by four homeowners who need access to it.

  • Parents are asked to come into the studio and pick up all children under ten years of age.  Please respect this request as we do not feel comfortable with children waiting outside unsupervised.  No child has ever been abducted, but once a child leaves the studio, we cannot be held responsible for their well-being.

COMMUNICATION: Most importantly, if you have a concern with anything from understanding why we plie, to costume choices, or even if something at home is affecting your child, please talk to the instructors, we cannot know there is a problem if you do not communicate it to us! Please call the studio with concerns after 3:30 pm to schedule an appropriate and mutually convenient time to discuss matters, or email the studio at firstpositiondancestudio@hotmail.com
