At First Position, the health of the whole dancer, body and mind, comes first. All of our instructors hold Pennsylvania child abuse clearances, and our classes are kept small so every dancer gets individual attention and correction. Each class begins with a warm-up, and our progressive, syllabus-based curriculum ensures dancers build strength and technique step by step. Instructors prioritize strength and flexibility exercises with injury prevention in mind. Milestones like pointe and other advanced skill work are earned through readiness, not rushed. Our studio is equipped with the right tools for each discipline, including non-slip marley flooring for tap, ballet barres, and mats for tumbling. Younger dancers are escorted in and out of class by an instructor and released directly to an adult, and only dancers and staff are allowed in the studio during class. Sick dancers stay home to help prevent the spread of illness, with make-up classes or recorded lessons so they never fall behind. In the event of an injury, staff notify a director immediately, provide first aid, contact parents, and document every incident. FPDS instructors nurture both physical ability and self-confidence. Corrections are always positive and encouraging, and our instructors focus on building dancers up and inspiring growth. Our goal is a studio where every dancer feels safe, supported, and excited to grow.
